Assist physicians with patient care for the Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine in a clinical setting.  Reporting of tests results, assessment of patient status, educational needs, and follow up care.  Provide education for staff, support for physicians and assist with research studies.



Provide basic patient care and examinations as directed by physician.


Performs phone triage, responding to patient questions, faculty, residents/other healthcare providers, pharmacies, and co-workers in a professional manner.


Maintain clinical competency in areas of responsibility to ensure quality patient care.


Prepare exam rooms for patient visits, restocking of the clinical area and exam rooms. Sterilize instruments when used and maintain medical equipment.


Triage of incoming patients by obtaining vital signs, chief complaint, reconcile medication list, reconcile allergies and prepare patient for the visit.


Obtain all pertinent records and tests relating to the current visit. Document review of systems in the Electronic Medical record.


Assist physicians with examinations, to include standing by with pelvic exams, minor surgeries, diagnostic procedures, and treatments including Intrauterine Inseminations, Hydrosonograms, Hystersalpingography and testicular aspirations.


Chaperon and assist physicians with examinations, ultrasounds, and procedures, treatments as requested.


Administer injection of medications with approved protocols. Observe patient for any reaction to medications, immunizations, treatments and significant incidents with LPN and/or physician guidance.


Be able to perform all diagnostic procedures, injections, helping with pharmacy requests, in house labs, and treatment procedures entering of all data in the Electronic Medical record.  Lab orders to include gen probe, new patient workup, chemistry panels, CBC, Genetic screening panels, HgB A1C .


Processing lab work for cycling patients protocols for InVitro Fertilization, Ovulation Induction, and Femara cycles.


Other Protocols and Duties:

Attending daily values meetings with physicians to report patients daily results.


Review and adjustment of assigned provider schedules for result verification and schedule flow.


Complete treatment plans, appointment and drug pre-authorizations as assigned


Review and update of all medications and assessing the need for refills.


Appropriately document interventions in the electronic medical record. Review the chart for completeness, test results and billing.  Billing, accurately and completely for all appropriate procedures and encounters.



Patient Education / Self-Management:

Assist provider staff in assessing barriers in care management for patients and provide patient education.


Medication teaching for patients in accordance with physician orders and program protocols.


Complete all “tasks” assigned to individual team (as well as covering for co-workers who may be temporarily absent). This includes responding to patient messages, prescription refills, lab results, referrals, medication prior authorizations, patient forms and follow up from physicians. All tasks must be reviewed, addressed and completed in accordance with EVMS Medical Group standards and policies.


Respond to questions from patients, family members, faculty/residents, other health care providers in a timely and professional manner. Patient phone calls should be answered on the same day they are logged in, before leaving for the day.   All patient conversations must be documented in the electronic medical record.


Participate in all staff meetings, education lectures and quality improvement activities.


Follow EVMS protocols related to infection control, environmental safety and patient confidentiality. 


Complete annual recertification for Blood Borne Pathogens, HIPAA Compliance Training, Respiratory FIT and IT Policy.  Maintain current CPR certification and any updates relating to M.A. Certification.


Promote the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the school and the department by becoming familiar with and complying with policies and procedures.


Contribute to the well-being of patients by serving as a positive role model and demonstrating a professional caring attitude towards co-workers, patients, and guests.


Perform other duties as assigned



Successful completion of a Medical assistant program (or equivalent military training) and certification (CMA, CCMA, or RMA) plus one (1) year of experience is required. Completion of AB-ROE modules will be accepted in lieu of certification.
