Assist physicians, faculty and nurses with the multi tasking of the Center to enhance the department effectiveness with medical assistance and office procedures. This includes, but is not limited to triaging patients, answering phones, scanning pertinent patient data into the electronic medical record, checking patients in and out, scheduling appointments and working/maintaining task lists in the electronic medical records system. Patient confidentiality must be maintained at all times.

Responsible for triaging patients; assisting patients to the exam room, taking/entering vitals, reviewing forms, answering questions and preparing patient for the physician.
Decision making and problem solving for patients within the medical assistant role.
Call in medication refills and new prescriptions upon physician request and approval and enter into the patient’s electronic medical record.
Screen and triage phone calls from patients, care givers and/or medical facilities. Answer and handle inquires and hospital consults. Answer incoming calls, take messages, and page physicians when needed.
Copy, prepare and send medical records for insurance companies, etc…
Maintain clean and well equipped exam rooms.
Compile and assemble clinical and laboratory results in patients chart.
Work and maintain task list in the electronic medical records and assist with clinical reports as needed.
All other duties as assigned related to front office and administrative duties.
Assist in other Internal Medicine Divisions as needed.
Check-in and check-out patients, obtain referrals when appropriate, and schedule appointments with specialists when requested; arrive patient in a timely manner.
Registers old and new patients, verifies demographics and insurance, verifies Race, Ethnic and Language in IDX, determines insurance co-pays, and collects money and co-pays to send to EVMS Medical Group, post all payments collected into the IDX system prior to sending to Accounting, unless otherwise indicated in payment posting procedure.

High school diploma plus successful completion of a Medical assistant program (or equivalent military training) and active certification (CMA, CCMA, or RMA) is required.
Copy of active certification is required upon application submission. Documentation must include your name, certification number, and expiration date. Any submission received without certification or any submission received with expired certification is incomplete and will not be considered.
