Overview

This position will work under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator and should have expertise in modern molecular biology, biochemistry and macromolecular analysis techniques. Mass Spectrometry/Proteomics experience is preferred . The incumbent will undertake research projects in various aspects of biomedical sciences by making contributions in laboratory procedures and experimental strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment.
  • Performing proteomics related bench, wet lab and mass spectrometry experiments.
  • Familiarity with all software used in the Facility and assisting Facility users in learning to use this software.
  • Understand the usual biological applications, cell handling techniques, and reagents used by researchers, i.e. tissue culture, laboratory bench, molecular biology.
  • Responsible for maintaining a library of bioinformatics software.
  • Training lab members in bioinformatics tools.
  • Responsible for maintaining laboratory supplies ordering, stocking, etc.
  • Exploring new experimental techniques that may benefit the research activities in the laboratory.
  • Acting as a central person who has possession of all common research reagents in the laboratory.
  • Responsible for accurately recording work performed including results and methodology. Calculates, compiles and analyzes data obtained from work performed.
  • Ensures that all laboratory activities are carried out in compliance with each procedure(s) by utilizing safety procedures and guidelines in handling, storage and disposal of bio-hazardous, infectious and toxic material.
  • Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts by describing methods and specialized techniques. Keeps abreast of new and improved techniques.
  • Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences or related field plus three (3) years’ research laboratory experience is required. Masters and PhD holders are encouraged to apply.

 

 

Molecular biology, Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics experience is preferred and Bioinformatics Analysis expertise will be an added advantage. Ability to multi-task in a highly dynamic environment and flexibility to work in a fast-paced team in a professional and pleasant manner is a necessity.
