Overview

This position is responsible for supervising the billing department which includes, various off-site billing locations including the ACC, Office Billing, Inpatient Billing and Pre-Certification/Authorization. Responsible for monitoring all sites EMR Charges.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise day to day activities of the billing staff.  This includes answering questions and problem solving.
  • Review insurance newsletters, coding alert newsletters and educating providers and staff of updates, changes, etc.
  • Review and audit internal billing procedures
  • Provider and staff billing  education and feedback
  • Update charge tickets on a yearly basis.
  • Answer insurance questions from front desk.
  • Handle vacation and sick leave requests.  Make sure coverage is provided.
  • Write up and review staff performance appraisals with employees.
  • Solve billing issues with patients over the phone.
  • Review collection list monthly and send back to EVMS Medical Group.
  • Facilitate Lab Corp. requests for additional information and fax back to the lab.
  • Research monthly credit balance report and initiate appropriate action
  • Answer phone calls from MG regarding billing issues and additional information needed to file claims.
  • Attend seminars to stay on top of changes that affect the coding for IM practices.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned by Director, Administrator, and/or Associate Chair of department.
  • Prepare multiple monthly billing reports for all sites.
  • Review rejection report monthly and bad debt write offs.
  • Bill ACC clinic charges.
  • Bill inpatient charges- all locations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree. Three (3) years medical billing experience, preferably in an academic setting.
  • Preferred: CPC Certification
  • Experience working with various software applications required, i.e., Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to exchange routing information as appropriate, requiring good oral and written communication skills.
  • High Organizational skills with the ability to multi- task.
