  • Overview

    Perform research within the work scope of the CONRAD Intramural Preclinical Research.

    Responsibilities

    • To assist in the use of viral (HIV, HSV, and others) cell culture and immunoassays at a BSL2+ lab
    • To maintain compliance within guidelines of a BSL2+ lab
    • To prepare culture media, maintain cell lines using aseptic conditions, treat cells, and analyze them with immunoassay or PCR techniques
    • To carry out experiments independently under supervision
    • To assist other investigators of the team with their experiments
    • To learn, troubleshoot and improve specific lab techniques
    • To take notes and record thoroughly all the experimental details
    • To process, analyze, graph and report partial and complete data obtained from these experiments
    • To compile data and analyses
    • To meet deadlines, milestones, timelines, and deliverables
    • To keep up to date with pertinent literature
    • To be a team-player integrating in the group and interacting with other members of the lab in a collegial and friendly manner
    • To work full time hours, ensuring experiments are completed in a timely fashion. This sometimes requires additional time beyond the standard 8h/day. Availability on Saturdays or Sundays is occasionally also required
    • To comply with EVMS employee policies and CONRAD standard operating procedures
    • To be motivated, responsible, self-starter, and enthusiastic
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences.  One year of biomedical laboratory experience is required.  At least two years full time laboratory experience preferred.

    Previous experience and knowledge of viral culture techniques and compliance needs with a BSL2+ lab. Capable of performing cell culture, microscopy, immunoassays and other standard laboratory techniques. Small animal handling skills(rabbit experience preferred). Experience with PCR techniques (preferred).

    Proficient in the use of MS Office and data management/analysis software.
