  • Overview

    Plan, organize, and direct patient care for the General OB/GYN, Urogynecology, and Advanced Gynecologic Surgery divisions at Hofheimer Hall, the Princess Anne Campus office, and the Kempsville Road office. Assists physicians with total patient care and contributes to the well-being of patients by serving as a positive role model.  Demonstrates a professional, caring attitude towards co-workers, patients, and guests.

    Responsibilities

    Review and facilitate the appropriate nursing coverage for General OB/GYN, Urogynecology, and Advanced Gynecologic Surgery patient care at the Hofheimer Hall office, the Princess Anne Campus office, and the Kempsville Road office.

    Manage General OB/GYN, Urogynecology, and Advanced Gynecologic Surgery nursing staff call out coverage, vacation/sick time coverage, and FMLA coverage at the Hofheimer Hall office, the Princess Anne Campus office, and the Kempsville Road office.

    Create and manage the nursing staff schedule for the General OB/GYN, Urogynecology, and Advanced Gynecologic Surgery divisions at the Hofheimer Hall office, the Princess Anne Campus office, and the Kempsville Road office.

    Call patient from reception area and prepare patient for examination.

    Take vital signs such as height, weight, temperature and blood pressure.  May draw blood and give injections.

    Record all pertinent patient information in EHR as well as completing workflows for meaningful use objectives.

    Review patient lab results, imaging studies, discuss abnormal findings with the physician and follow up with patient in regard to treatment prescribed by the physician as necessary.

    Schedule and perform nurse visit related appointments to include immunizations and other injections.

    Chaperone physician in examining room as needed; assist with minor surgical and diagnostic procedures.

    Prepare procedure trays.

    Schedule, preauthorize and prepare of all in office procedures.

    Schedule Cesarean sections and induction of labor.

     Maintain patient pap smear log

    QA and prep charts for upcoming visits to ensure receipt of all lab results, imaging, outside records for established patients as well as obtaining patient history information for new patients.

    Sterilize equipment and supplies.

    Maintain clean and well stocked exam rooms.

    Order and Inventory of devices and supplies.

    Request Prior Authorizations for appointment related needs.

    Monitor and complete tasks in EMR daily

    Rotate between other EVMS OBGYN offices as needed.

    Follow up with patients regarding no shows and send appropriate letters.

    Provide coverage as needed within the department.

    Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Completion of a program of instruction for licensure as a Practical Nurse required.  Licensed in Virginia.
