Overview

Liaison between patient and doctor.  Schedule surgery and arrange all pre-surgical testing.  Obtain pre-authorization and pre-certification from insurance company.

Responsibilities

Coordinate the scheduling of all department surgeries and all post-operative appointments.

Coordinate with secondary Surgeons (physicians), if necessary for procedure/surgical schedules

Compile necessary reports and forms prior to surgery

Counsel and discuss all pertinent information with surgical patients

Update demographic patient information

Provides instructions for pre- and post-operative care including information about possible complications

Answer all questions related to surgery including Check-in time, Identify appropriate sign-in location and post-operative/discharge expectations

Provide front office support in greeting and verifying patient demographics and insurance issues

Collect co-payments and outstanding patient balances

Review and discuss facility and physician fees

Discuss financial options

Prepare office for surgical procedures

Act as patient advocate and ensure a pleasant patient experience

Answer phone in a pleasant/responsive manner and direct calls appropriately

Take and task messages that are clear and legible and disseminate, when appropriate

Process appropriate information in appropriate E H R, following proper charting procedures

Obtain physician authorization to release medical records

Responsive to patient needs solving patient problems and issues

Ensure physician billing is in requisite Division format prior to delivery to billing department

Ensure that all patient visits have billing documentation that is submitted to the billing department

Filing, faxing and copying as requested

Prepare correspondence/forms/letters etc. as requested by patients and faculty

All other surgical coordination functions

HIPAA – Conforms to all applicable HIPAA compliance and safety guidelines

Performs other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

Associates degree plus two (2) years of relevant experience working in a hospital or physician's office.  Must have knowledge of third party billing procedures and surgery scheduling. Customer service oriented individual is required.
