The Art Therapy Teacher will report to the Program Director of the Graduate Art Therapy and Counseling Program at EVMS.


This position works no more than 20 hours per week.


Develop and manage syllabus and course materials

The Part‐Time teacher is responsible for adhering to the course syllabus, using appropriate course

materials, selecting updated course materials, and submitting updates to the syllabus to the Program

Director and Administrative Support Coordinator.


Coordinate curriculum with Program Director and Faculty

The Part‐Time teacher is responsible for reviewing any textbook and other material changes with the

Program Director and other full‐time faculty.


Facilitate Class Instruction

Part‐Time Faculty is responsible for teaching the assigned course in accordance with learning objectives

specified by the Graduate Art Therapy and Counseling Program of Eastern Virginia Medical School and

the American Art Therapy Association.


Evaluate Student Performance

The Part‐Time teacher is expected to administer evaluations of student performance based on course

deliverables and course rubrics. All course grades will be posted on the Blackboard Grade Center.


Respond Promptly to Grade Determination

The Part‐Time teacher should submit grades for any assignments, discussion board exercises, and exams

and course completion within one week of the due date and close of the semester as noted in the

Graduate Art Therapy and Counseling Program Student Handbook.


Faculty Meetings and Communication

The Part‐Time teacher is not required to attend Faculty Meetings. It is recommended that the Teacher attend faculty meetings when possible. It is expected that the Teacher communicate

student concerns, student academic performance concerns, work flow disruptions, or any other

concerns to the Program Director via writing or telephone within 24 hours of noting a concern.


Policies and Procedures

The Part‐Time teacher will read and adhere to all EVMS policies and procedures.


Master’s Degree in Art Therapy, Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or related field is required.  Must be a Registered Art Therapist.  Licensed Professional Counselor is preferred.
