Preventative/corrective maintenance of EVMS buildings and facilities.  Major areas of concentration include plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and other environmental systems.  This position is required to work the day shift (7:30 AM to 4:00 PM).


  • Primary responsibility will be to perform preventive maintenance and routine maintenance on plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and HVAC  systems throughout EVMS buildings and apartments during the day shift.
  • Answer and direct phone calls and emails from EVMS staff, employees, vendors, and outside contractors relating to work-orders.
  • Assists in the coordination of all heating and cooling operations.
  • Performs regular preventive maintenance on equipment, and campus facilities as directed by Maintenance Supervisor and provides documentation of completed work.
  • Performs buildings and grounds maintenance/up-keep as needed; e.g., changing light bulbs, changing filters, cleaning maintenance equipment closets, etc.
  • Identifies parts to be repaired, inventories critical spare parts, and recommends ordering of non-stock items.
  • Assist with demolition, repair, and renovations of offices and other areas.
  • Responsible for installing cabinets, shelves, pictures, and patient care equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Plumber journeyman level certification/license plus five (5) years of experience. Must have a valid Virginia Driver's License.  Must be insurable through EVMS insurance carrier.  Experience with building plumbing systems.  Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams.



  • Must possess skills and ability to perform multiple tasks.
  • Knowledge of trades related to building maintenance and repair.
  • Must be able to safely use manual tools and power equipment common in the maintenance trade.
  • Skill in following safety practices and recognizing hazards. Must be able to handle hazardous materials safely and understand electrical hazards and risks.
  • Skill in reading and following blueprints, as-built drawings, floorplans, and schematics.
  • Problem solving to identify issues and select action plans.
  • Knowledge and ability to understand multi-step written and oral instructions.
  • Flexibility to work with others and to work with a wide diversity of people.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing work priorities. Develop effective working relationships, display some mechanical aptitude, work under time constraints, and comply with OSHA/TOSHA regulations.
  • Ability to operate department vehicles, hand trucks, and manual pallet jack.
  • Ability to work at heights from ladders and scaffolding.
