  • Overview

    The Department of Microbiology and Molecular Cell Biology at the Eastern Virginia Medical School has a regular, full-time position available for a Research Associate I. The incumbent will work the under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator and should have expertise in modern molecular biology, biochemistry and macromolecular analysis techniques. Mass Spectrometry/Proteomics experience will be an added advantage. The successful incumbent will undertake research projects in various aspects of biomedical sciences by making contributions in laboratory procedures and experimental strategies.


    Performs a variety of routine and non-routine laboratory research experiments.

    Responsible for accurately recording work performed including results and methodology. Calculates, compiles and analyzes data obtained from work performed.

    Ensures that all laboratory activities are carried out in compliance with each procedure(s) by utilizing safety procedures and guidelines in handling, storage and disposal of bio-hazardous, infectious and toxic material.

    Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts by describing methods and specialized techniques. Keeps abreast of new and improved techniques.

    Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.

    Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.


    Bachelor’s degree in biomedical science plus three (3) years’ research laboratory experience is required. Molecular biology, Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics experience is preferred. Ability to multi-task in a highly dynamic environment and flexibility to work in a fast-paced team in a professional and pleasant manner is a necessity.
