  • Overview

    The Manger Research Opportunities and Development (MROD) is primarily responsible for the coordination and facilitation of collaborations for multidisciplinary research by faculty and will coordinate the placement of  medical and health professions students with research mentors and projects.  The MROD will play a key managing role in helping faculty with finding funding, planning and directing the development of team-based institutional grant proposals to federal, state and foundation agencies in support of the EVMS research mission.  The MROD will also manage the  creation of  centralized research databases and provide administrative guidance to the development of a research curriculum for learners. The MROD will also provide administrative assistance to the Research Executive Committee, the Vice Dean for Research and the Senior Associate Dean for Research.  The MROD will also facilitate grant writing and development activities with other EVMS offices and personnel and provide research metrics information to the web page and other EVMS offices.


    • Facilitates, coordinates and managesactivities related to team-based grant collaborationsby faculty to various funding agencies aligned with the EVMS strategic mission.
    • Promotes research collaborations with other universities and partners
    • Provides administrative and writing assistance related to the development of aims, background, resources, budgets, outcomes and other grant-related submission requirements.
    • Reviews final grant proposals for consistency to requirements and coordinates with Sponsored Programs on the submission of grant proposals.  
    • Interacts with Departments and other Offices to develop training programs for research by learners .
    • Maintains a regular update about grant funding opportunities for faculty and departmental staff.  Develops customized grant opportunity alerts for faculty.
    • Assists the Research Executive Committee, Vice Dean and Office of Research with committee management and special projects.
    • Administers internal research funding programs for internal pilot grants, student research scholarship and the Research Committee.  Assists with core laboratory and capital equipment requests.
    • Maintains databases and web materials about research programs and core centers.
    • Serves as a clearinghouse for students seeking opportunities for research at EVMS.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    Bachelor’s degree in science, public administration or health or related field. Five (5) years of relevant grant management, coordination and development experience required.  Experience with grant applications to NIH, HRSA and PCORI preferred or to other federal agencies.  Experience with managing projects is preferred.  Ability to multitask and work independently.
