  • Overview

    EVMS seeks a part-time Academic Counselor to support the work of the Office of Academic Development to promote student success

    Responsibilities

    • Provide individualized academic counseling for students in both the Medical School and the Health Professions programs
    • Advise students, as needed, on policies and procedures related to their course of study
    • Consult with faculty and program administrators in support of students’ success
    • Assist in the development of resources on effective learning strategies, study skills, test-taking skills, time management, stress management, etc.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Candidates must possess a Masters degree in psychology plus three (3) years of experience academic counseling, preferably in a higher education setting is preferred. Doctoral Degree is preferred.

     

     

    Successful candidates will demonstrate competence in learning principles (including adult learning), test-taking strategies, and emotional factors related to the learning process (e.g., test anxiety, depression, self-confidence, etc.). Understanding of the rigors and demands of healthcare training programs is helpful. Strong communication skills are a must.
