  • Overview

    The Event Assistant’s (EAs) primary responsibility is to assist in the coordination and execution of all medical and simulation-based activities at the Sentara Center for Simulation and Immersive Learning (SCSIL). The EA’s time will be split between event preparation and administering active events. The EA must be able to function in a high-paced changing environment while maintaining a professional demeanor with Center staff, learners, and clients.

    • The EA is responsible for event logistics as well as client and learner orientation.
    • The EA serves as the liaison between Center staff and learners, faculty and clients.
    • The EA supervises transient employees who assist in events.
    • The EA must work across various technology platforms to formulate daily and weekly for implementing Center events. 
    • The EA is responsible for generating various documents in support of Center events and therefore must be highly organized and have attention to detail.


    • Coordinates the implementation of and monitors training/education events at the Center.
    • Ensures fulfilment of simulation activity requirements from pre- through post-event.
    • Manages Center software systems specific to each event(s).
    • Monitors SPs attendance.
    • Creates floor schedules and other event support materials.
    • Serve as a liaison between the Center and learners; and Center and faculty on the floor when running events.
    • Orients learners, faculty, and clients to Center’s systems and expectations.
    • Completes event reports and updates event-specific documents post-event.
    • Coordinates and ensures proper set up of Center spaces to meet specific event requirements.
    • Troubleshoots problems.
    • Monitors consumable Center resources to ensure adequate on-hand supplies for events.
    • Works with Logistics and Center staff to ensure proper coverage and understanding of individual event needs.
    • Responsible for managing their daily workload with minimal supervision.
    • Performs various duties as assigned by Center leadership.


    Associates degree. Three (3) years of event planning and execution experience. Computer and/or audio/visual experience preferred.
