Assistant Director is responsible for mission-centered recruitment, admissions, and marketing to fulfill the mission of attracting a diverse pool of talented trainees. The position reports directly to the Assistant Dean, EVMS Diversity in Educational Programs, and will work closely with the Vice President, EVMS Diversity and Inclusion; and the Associate Dean of Admissions and Enrollment. Must be willing to travel, and work evenings and weekends, as needed.
-Direct the robust mission-centered recruitment of students traditionally underrepresented in medicine and the health professions (African-American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander), veterans, women, and individuals from rural and socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, with special emphasis on increasing the pool of in-state candidates.
-Work with student leaders at Virginia colleges with mission-centered student organizations/clubs for EVMS recruitment.
-Work with the leadership in developing a recruitment plan for addressing the shortage of Black males in medicine, in close consultation with the National Medical Association and the Association of American Medical Colleges.
-Work with the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions to establish a data base for premed advisors, and make select visits to colleges and universities.
-Identify mission-centered student trainees through the Association of American Medical Colleges Medical Minority Applicant Registry after each administration of the Medical College Admission Test, send recruitment materials, and track for medical school admissions.
-Represent EVMS at regional and national recruitment events sponsored by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), the National Association of Medical Minority Educators (NAMME), the Student National Medical Association (SNMA), and the Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA).
-Coordinate the Annual On-Campus Visitation Day Program for pre-medical students on the East Coast, and track for recruitment.
-Track and report on recruitment efforts and outcomes to the Assistant Dean, Vice-President for Diversity and Inclusion, and Associate Dean for Admissions and Enrollment.
-Prepare weekly reports on the status of URM admissions candidates for the Assistant Dean and Vice-President, EVMS Diversity and Inclusion (In-State, Out-of-State, Accepted, Confirmed, Un-Confirmed, Waitlisted, Rejected, Withdrawals).
-Provide holistic summaries on admissions candidates for review with the Associate Dean of Admissions and Enrollment.
-Maintain the schedule of admissions interviewees for meeting with EVMS Diversity in Educational Programs, the Vice-President, and corresponding with the Student National Medical Association, EVMS Military Medicine, the LGBT Alliance, etc.
-Follow-up with correspondence to accepted candidates and administer surveys to those who withdraw acceptance to EVMS.
-Track and follow-up with on student trainees in the Medical Master’s Programs, and the Joint BS/MD Programs in Medicine.
-Provide outcomes tracking on mission-centered matriculates to EVMS Entering Classes to key leadership.
-Work with EVMS Marketing and Communication representative for developing promotional materials for targeted mission centered recruitment.
-Along with Admissions requirements, promote the EVMS CareForward curriculum, service learning and community and global health opportunities, advanced research initiatives, and clinical training in power-point and recruitment presentations.
-Maintain the Website for EVMS Diversity in Educational Programs and EVMS Diversity and Inclusion.
-Support the Assistant Dean, EVMS Diversity in Educational Programs with administrative office functions; coordinate purchasing, calendars, travel.
-Provide support when needed for EVMS Diversity and Inclusion activities, including seminars, lectures and workshops targeted at enhancing diversity and inclusion, as well as professional development of trainees, faculty, and staff.
Bachelor’s degree plus three (3) years of relevant work experience in recruitment and admissions in higher education. Experience in directing and implementing programs for college and professional school students. Experience with diverse groups, and promoting a climate of diversity and inclusion.
