  • Overview

    Responsible for answering all in-coming calls, scheduling and cancelling patient appointments, and sending messages to the appropriate staff or provider in the patient electronic health record.  Must be able to read, comprehend and follow instructions, policies, and flow charts.  Some decision making skills needed to determine the urgency and direction of the messages.  Patient confidentiality must be maintained at all times.

    Responsibilities

    Responsible for answering a high volume of in-coming calls on a multi-line, call distribution phone system.  Maintain a polite and professional manner at all times.

     

    Responsible for taking messages, paging doctors when appropriate, handling hospital consults, and answering inquiries.

     

    Schedule/reschedule/cancel patient appointments.  Confirm appointments if automated patient reminder system is down.

     

    Review and maintain all assigned EHR tasks.  Follow-My-Health, IM Schedule Team, Verify Document, and others.

     

    Assist patients with information on their medication refills, lab orders, and referrals.  Problem solve when necessary.

     

    Gives directions to patients and visitors.

     

    Participate in monthly staff meetings.

     

    Assist with Referral and Imaging Tracking Reports and other Quality Reports.

     

    May assist with patient check-in and check-out if necessary. 

     

    May assist with referral tracking

     

    May assist with medical records paperwork.  Faxing, placing patient letters in envelopes, printing out information in chart, contacting specialists for information.

     

    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    High school diploma plus one year experience performing related functions in a medical practice.  Must have some working knowledge of computers and typing experience. Professional, customer service-oriented individual is required.
