Responsible for the planning, organization, direction and coordination of clinical practice operations throughout the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, to include the Division of Inpatient Psychiatry at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Responsibilities include monitoring daily practice support functions, customer service, all non-provider staff, facilities and equipment, quality standards, budget performance, practice analysis and quality improvement. Works with Chair and Vice Chairs on financial and strategic planning, practice marketing, and new business development initiatives. Maintains ancillary responsibilities related to department research, education and general administration as assigned by the Chair.
Manages the daily practice operation of the Department’s primary location at Hofheimer Hall, and utilizes lead support staff to ensure that operations at Andrews Hall are efficient and conform to EVMS Medical Group Quality Standards and all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
Maintains a patient-centered clinical practice environment conducive to staff and providers individuality and creativity as well as responsibility. Provides feedback opportunity for patients, staff, and faculty.
Administers the recruitment, selection, assignment and training of support staff; approves all matters relating to employee evaluations, transfers, promotions, discipline, terminations and resignations under the direction of the Chair.
Provides staff with clear expectations of their responsibilities and encourages their participation in problem solving. Conducts annual performance evaluations for all direct reports. Reviews evaluations completed by supervisory staff. Communicates the expectations of senior leadership and the rationale to the staff.
Develops, maintains, and monitors the annual EVMS Medical Group and EVMS budget with oversight from the Chair, Assistant Chair, and Divisional Directors. Reviews and analyzes the revenue, expense and collection trends for the practice on a monthly basis and reports findings to Chair.
Monitors clinical productivity; tracks monthly statistics and prepares reports for EVMS Health Services and the department.
Coordinates efforts to assess and improve the quality of clinical activities and support operations of the practice.
Participates in the EVMS-MG Practice Management Committee and Strategic Management Committee, and other committee as requested to develop plans and procedures for improvement of patient care and practice support operations.
Develop and implement a work flow to ensure adherence to EVMS-MG Service Rounding initiative; reporting actionable items to Chairman and EVMS-MG.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in business or healthcare management. Three (3) years of progressively more responsible positions in group practice management required; operations experience in an academic practice plan or large multi-specialty group practice is preferred. A Master’s Degree in business, healthcare management, finance, public health, or related field is preferred.
