Function as an independent nurse clinician in coordinating patient care to include the performance, interpretation, and reporting of test results, assessment of patient status, educational needs, and follow up care. Provides education for staff and community and assists with research programs.
Applies compresses, ice bags and hot water bottles.
Observes patients and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment to medical personnel in charge.
Administers specified medication, orally or by subcutaneous or intermuscular injection, and notes time and amount on patients’ charts.
Sterilizes equipment and supplies.
Inventories and requisitions supplies.
May supervise LPNs and/or medical assistants.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Assist with Thyroid Biopsies.
Obtain prior authorizations for medications, pump supplies and DME.
Coordinate care with DME companies for patients.
Schedule outpatient procedures and tests.
Assist in preparing charts for providers prior to clinic.
Download pumps and continuous glucose sensors.
Communicate with patients about lab results.
Assist patients with medication questions and clarification on dosing.
Provide Diabetes Education, when needed.
Insulin and pump training to patients as needed.
Assist providers in clinic as needed.
All other duties as assigned.
Graduation from NLN Accredited School of Nursing with RN and CDE (Certified Diabetes Educator) required, BSN preferred.
Must have valid VA RN license.
