  • Overview

    Under the supervision of the project director, the person filling this position will provide staff support and assist with implementation of community-engaged health behavior research projects in the Division of Community Health and Research in the Department of Pediatrics.  Availability for occasional evening and weekend hour meetings with community groups. Must be willing to travel to community partner sites (e.g., in Hampton Roads area).

    Responsibilities

    • Provide staff support for assessment activities , including focus groups, community meetings, surveys, data collection and entry, and other assessment related tasks as determined necessary by the project. Assist with conducting a survey and air quality assessments in local public housing communities.
    • Recruit sites/participants, work with partners and otherwise support the implementation of identified research activities per the project work plan
    • At the direction of the project director, support the implementation of community-engaged research tasks by preparing materials and working directly with community groups and in community settings to implement the intervention plan, and provide some support for selected site interventions
    • Attend and participate in the related meetings for the projects
    • Assist with the submission of papers and posters to conferences. Assist with the development of manuscripts, proposals, and other written materials destined to external sources for review.
    • Assist with the development of reports to the funder and community partners
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in a health or social and behavioral science field, such as public health, community health, psychology, sociology, social work. Experience completing surveys. Working knowledge of the research process and the desire to increase research skills. Driver’s license and own transportation required.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills; must be flexible and able to adapt to quick changes
    • Must be a self-starter who can work both independently and on teams
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and other content development software. Familiarity with the internet.
