  • Overview

    Responsible for providing high quality reception services to patients and visitors.  Responsible for answering the telephone in a courteous and professional manner, scanning pertinent patient data into the electronic medical record, checking patients in and out, verifying patient insurance and referrals, collecting payments and scheduling appointments.   Patient confidentiality must be maintained at all times.

    Responsibilities

     

    • Meet and greet all incoming patients, screening arriving visitors to the office all in a polite and courteous manner.
    • Assist patients in completion of all paperwork, HIPPA forms and updates.
    • Confirm patient’s insurance eligibility, copy card and confirm the PCP. Update all changed information in the computer
    • Collect co-pays and fees for services and record in ledger book. Receipts given to patient. Balance daily collections; verify monies collected with supervisor for EVMS security pick up.
    • Arrive patient in the electronic health record for nursing staff to be able to triage patient.
    • Answer all incoming calls to the office in a polite and professional manner. Take appropriate messages and forward to the teams and assigned physicians.
    • Review and complete all EHR tasks that are assigned to you and your appropriate team using the EVMS standards of care
    • Help patients make appointments either through a call into the switchboard or as patient checks out after being seen.
    • Work with patients on getting paperwork filled out, picking up forms, prescription refills, medical records, referrals and billing questions.
    • Cross trained in all areas of the medical practice to provide coverage during times of staff shortages. To include, assisting with photocopying, various office tasks, referrals, medical records, switchboard, and scheduling and Portsmouth Health Department clinic front desk coverage.
    • Participates in department staff meetings and other quality improvement projects, Patient Centered Medical Home initiatives that are required by the department and/or volunteered for.
    • Willing to perform “other” duties as assigned by the supervisors or Physicians.

    Qualifications

    HS diploma and one year medical office experience is required.  Must have strong customer service experience.
