  • Overview

    The Director of Assessment supports development, implementation, analysis, and reporting activities related to the assessment of learners for EVMS Undergraduate Medical Education (UME), The Director is responsible for the activities in the testing center, supervising the assessment staff, and  establishing and maintaining strong partnerships with faculty members, program administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure that assessment activities align with learner needs, program goals, accreditation standards, and evidence-based best practices.

    The Director is responsible for strategic leadership, operational management, analysis, and reporting collaboration. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Collaborate with faculty members, program administrators, and other stakeholders to design, launch, and maintain assessment activities
    • Implementation and maintenance of Progress IQ dashboard for learner performance reporting
    • Participate in quantitative and qualitative data analyses to support data-driven decision making and action planning
    • Distribute assessment reports to key stakeholders
    • Represent EVMS nationally
    • Participate in strategic planning with the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs to outline initiatives, objectives, and outcomes associated with EVMS learning assessment
    • Participate in accreditation- or funding-related self-studies and reviews, including those associated with the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
    • Serve as an active member of various committees, advisory boards, and managing boards, including the Medical Education Committee, Pre-clerkship Curriculum Committee, among others.
    • Conduct data analysis and report preparation using SPSS, R, or other software packages, as appropriate
    • Consult on test construction, score examination data, and conduct item and test analyses
    • Advise faculty on exam standard setting, grade distributions, and grading written assessments (essays and short answers)
    • Assist faculty with creating grading rubrics
    • Ensure UME assessment activities align with the new AIS-SIS where applicable


    Bachelors in Education, Educational Psychology, or related field and 8 years experience assessing learners. Higher level education can be counted towards required years of experience.

    • Masters or PhD
    • Experience assessing learners in medical or other health professions education.
    • Working knowledge of E*Value, Progress IQ, NBME, Blackboard, Respondus, and ExamSoft
    • Experience in instructional design analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation in undergraduate medical education
