Provides maintenance and modification support for network infrastructure requirements. Installs and maintains servers, critical applications, and user connections.
Perform routine diagnostic & systems monitoring.
Manages and maintains large networks utilizing 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet layer 2 & layer 3 switches, current wireless technologies, Fiber & Cat5/6 cabling, TCP/IP, NetWare & Windows based servers, WANS, VPNs, routers, firewalls, voice over IP, tape backup, etc.
Will also install new network related hardware and software.
Position Specific: NIC
Maintain campus-wide network operations, including WAN and VPN access provisions.
Assist with installation and configuration of multi-segment TCP/IP computer networks. Assist with Installation of routers and layer 3 switches. Install and configure layer 2 switches utilizing fiber and copper media with Ethernet Connections. Modify networks as required to optimize performance, security, and reliability.
Troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve network connectivity/performance problems.
Install, configure, and maintain wireless access points and bridges.
Install, configure, and maintain servers for local and campus-wide applications, including web, database, LDAP, and other applications.
Administer server backup as assigned.
Provide technical and operational support for enterprise wide scheduling, virus/spam protection, and email programs as well as other specialized network management software.
Research equipment specifications and recommend configuration standards for servers, switches, storage provisions, and other network equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, or related technical field or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in network administration.
A competency designation such as CNE or MCSE is desired, but proof of detailed training or specifically applicable experience may be accepted.
Ability to learn & adapt to new software & hardware systems.
Problem solving ability.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Respects departmental policies and procedures.
Guards all EVMS data as confidential under penalty of termination.
Thorough working knowledge of Local Area Networking (LAN) using Novell Netware &/or Microsoft Windows Server
Thorough working knowledge of networking equipment (switches, routers, firewalls, etc.).
Thorough working knowledge of MS-DOS.
Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems.
Thorough working knowledge of Windows applications (Office, FTP, etc.)
Thorough working knowledge of the internal working of the Intel based microcomputer hardware.
Works effectively with Novell, Microsoft, Linux, pr Unix systems.
Experience with Linux based servers preferred.
Experience with 802.11b/g wireless networks preferred.
