  • Overview

    This is a full time position for an advanced medical assistant, providing outpatient care for our patients and assisting our physicians in all clinical areas of the practice. Responsible for front and back office administrative functions.  Also assists Physicians and Nurses with medical examination of patients.

     

    In order to be considered for this position, your certification (CMA, CCMA, or RMA) must be uploaded to your profile.

    Responsibilities

    Answers calls coming into the Hofheimer Hall outpatient clinic and refers calls as necessary.  Also responsible for taking messages, paging doctors when appropriate, handling hospital consults, and answering inquiries.

     

    Schedules office appointments, calls patients to remind and confirm appointments; reschedules patients from the bump list, and schedules residents’ clinics where appropriate.

     

    Prepares charts for the pending office appointment; creates new patient charts, checks charts for referrals and authorization prior to visit

     

    Obtains and writes referrals, when appropriately trained and directed, and

    schedules outside appointments with specialists.

     

    Reviewing intakes/ requests for consultations and ultrasounds and scheduling them appropriately.

     

    Ensures that appropriate data (i.e. Labs, medical records) are available prior to the appointment.

     

    Reviews intake forms with the MD/NP/PA when needed to determine what services best suit the Patient

     

    Creates prenatal lab forms prior to appointment

     

    Obtains labs and clinic notes from referring Provider’s office

     

    Obtains all inpatient records and labs prior to scheduled appointment

     

    Obtains all specialty clinical notes, procedures, operative reports, and labs prior to appointment

     

    Obtains all required lab results, provider notes, and recent ultrasound reports prior to scheduled MFM ultrasound

     

    PATIENT CONFIDENTIALITY MUST BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES.

     

    OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

     

    Gives directions to patients and visitors.

     

    Maintains order in reception room.

     

    Records and delivers express mail and sorts U.S. mail.

     

    Copies medical records.

     

    Provides back-up coverage for medical assistant,

     

    Handles pick-up and drop off of medications.

     

    Takes vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure.  May draw blood and give injections under the immediate supervision of a Physician or RN. 

     

    Chaperons when appropriate and assists during certain minor surgeries and diagnostic procedures, such as Pap Smears. 

     

    Maintains clean, well-equipped examination rooms; cleans and sterilizes instruments. 

     

    Stocks examination rooms and triage area with medical supplies.  Inventories and reorders supplies.

    Document all information in EMR.

     

    Prepare education packets.

     

    Checks EMR tasks daily

     

    Reviews patient lab results, discuss abnormal findings with the physician and follow up with patient in regard to treatment as necessary

     

    Performs other duties as assigned, according to the individual departmental needs.

    Qualifications

    Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program and certification.

    At least one (1) year of clinical experience in a doctor’s office. Women’s health experience preferred but not required.

    Experience in a “fast paced” ambulatory setting.

    Ability to balance multiple priorities and tasks.

    Ability to make professional decisions under the supervision of the physicians and licensed nurses.

    Possess professional interaction skills with physicians, outside offices, pharmacies, referring agencies, hospital personnel and support staff.

    Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills

    Have the ability to read and comprehend all information required for this position

    Have the ability to calculate figures and amounts required for medication administration.
