  • Overview

    The Assistant Director of Giving will assist in identification and engagement of current, new, and/or unidentified constituencies, resulting in increased philanthropic revenue for the school and increased leadership-level annual giving contributions.  The Assistant Director of Giving will coordinate initiatives with the Director of Annual Giving and the Director of Development Operations and other frontline fundraisers as needed.  The position will include segmentation of multiple constituencies via direct mail, electronic appeals, phoning, donor segmentation & acquisition, donor qualification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and will help identify qualified prospects for the major gifts program. This position’s development role will compliment development efforts to a specific constituent group with an emphasis on building a strong donor pipeline. 


    • Develop strong relationships with donors and prospects to deepen donor’s commitment to EVMS.
    • Identify prospects from direct mail data and target analytics for portfolio development and identification of additional target areas of strategic interest to EVMS.
    • Create and manage segmented constituent-based direct marketing programs geared at engaging new and/or unidentified EVMS audiences (i.e. parents, students, faculty / staff, grateful patients, etc.).
    • Create, write, and process special correspondence with appropriate personalization including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship letters.
    • Educate and inform donors on diverse giving opportunities to include special campaigns or planned giving.
    • Create an effective qualification process via phoning in assigned portfolio to share and request information to determine donor affinity to EVMS and capacity for financial support based on specific fundraising goals.
    • Schedule qualification visits in assigned portfolio to share and request information to determine donor readiness, capacity, and inclination (RCI) to financially support EVMS based on fundraising specific goals.
    • Document daily activities, contacts, action reports, calls, correspondence into Raiser’s Edge database to ensure comprehensive assessment of donor needs and interests as well as for weekly & monthly reporting purposes.
    • Review/analyze data so as to create, maintain, and distribute a suite of reports which track results and quantify key metrics.
    • Develop correspondence from different authors to support development process.
    • Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency.
    • Prepare proposals and presentations for meetings and events.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.




    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.  

    Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in development/fundraising with a solid understanding of fundraising principles and methodologies is required. Experience in marketing and/or strong marketing and public relations skills with the goal of successfully soliciting gifts a plus. Experience in higher education or academic health center is preferred.


    Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint required, Access preferred. Experience using CRM databases required; experience in Raiser’s Edge database preferred.
