Under the direction of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness, this position works under broad, administrative direction with significant responsibility in planning, organizing, and managing the Continuing Medical Education program at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS). 


Manage and enhance relationships with healthcare partners; working with faculty and department chairs to identify CME needs and delivery modalities.  Innovation in the use of technology will be a major factor in moving CME forward.


This position oversees activities of the Continuing Medical Education office in an effective, timely, accurate and professional manner; surveys area health needs and serves as the professional overseeing the duties described herein.  Ensure that the CME activities sponsored by EVMS meet the Accreditation requirements of the ACCME in order to maintain the ACCME full accreditation/commendation for EVMS.


  • Serve as the CME professional at EVMS, identifying the goals and strategic direction of CME to comply with the mission of EVMS and the office of CME.
  • Develop and update procedures and policies to address ACCME requirements and expectations and commendation criteria.
  • Manage the daily operations of the CME office including staff and other resources to meet the department goals in an effective and efficient professional manner.
  • Manage commercial support for EVMS CME activities.
  • Oversee professional development of CME staff and others in the processes needed to maintain accreditation and to implement CME educational goals.
  • Develop policies and procedures regarding commercial support with the ACCME, AMA and FDA requirements and to ensure compliance in all CME activities.
  • Provide annual reporting to EVMS and ACCME as required for accreditation.
  • Oversee staff as necessary to meet the goals of the Office of CME.
  • Any other responsibilities that would enhance the office of CME and other strategic directions as directed by the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness.


PhD in Education or health related field with an emphasis in medical or scientific education preferred.  At least 10 years leadership related experience working in CME or equivalent combination of education and experience.
