Overview

This position will work under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator and should have expertise in modern molecular biology, biochemistry and macromolecular analysis techniques. Mass Spectrometry, Proteomics, Metabolomics and/or Genomics experience is preferred . The incumbent will perform routine and non-routine, complex diagnostic assays using state of the art equipment and techniques. The incumbent will also be involved in efforts to develop, validate and implement new analytical test methods and strategies. 

Responsibilities

  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the Facility.
  • Operating Mass Spectrometers and accessory instrumentation. Overseeing and maintaining essential MS instruments and Liquid Chromatography equipment.
  • Operating DNA Sequencer and accessory instrumentation.
  • Overseeing and maintaining essential DNA Sequencing instruments accessory instrumentation.
  • Performing proteomics, metabolomics and genomics related bench, wet lab and experiments.
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating data acquisition, data processing and bioinformatics analysis software tools in the Facility.
  • Training of Facility users in bioinformatics tools.
  • Responsible for maintaining laboratory supplies ordering, stocking, etc.
  • Developing new analytical techniques to advance the capabilities research programs of the Facility.
  • Responsible for accurate documentation of methods, results and data for research projects.
  • Ensure compliance to all the relevant institutional policies with respect to all research and laboratory activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and manuscripts for publication.
  • Effective communication with Faculty and other Facility users.
  • Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

Minimum Master’s degree in biomedical sciences or related field plus three (3) years’ research laboratory experience is required. PhD preferred. Experience in Molecular Biology, Genomics, Mass Spectrometry, Proteomics and Metabolomics analysis is preferred and Bioinformatics Analysis expertise will be an added advantage. Ability to multi-task in a highly dynamic environment and flexibility to work in a fast-paced team in a professional and pleasant manner is a necessity.
