Overview

This is a Full time position for a Licensed Practical Nurse, providing outpatient nursing care for our patients and assisting our physicians in all clinical areas of the practice.

Responsibilities

   

  • Triage and room patients.  This includes but is not limited to obtaining vital signs, entering and/or reconciling medication list, allergies and determining chief complaint.

 

  • Provide or assist physicians with basic care and treatment when needed, including communicating with physicians concerning the patient’s condition.

 

  • Prepare/set-up and assist providers with Ultrasound and biopsy clinic.

 

  • Review and work/complete all “tasks” assigned to you.

 

  • Act as one of the Divisions Electronic Health Record’s Super users.  The Super user will work directly with the Providers to provide additional training support as well as assist clinical staff in navigating through the EHR.

 

  • Employee will be able to work with the Practice Manager and EHR team to resolve and identify issues with the EHR that directly impacts clinical operations during patient care.

 

  • Provide patient teaching and education with medications, pump starts and/or cpap or diabetic meter downloads.

 

  • Schedule specialist appointments and obtain referrals from the insurance companies as needed.

 

  • Mail lab orders, prescriptions, and result letters to patients.  Occasionally call and answer questions regarding results and physician instructions. 

 

  • Obtain lab/CT/MRI/Biopsy results from outside sources, as needed and scan into the patient’s electronic medical record.  This includes pre-visit planning; reviewing upcoming appointments and obtaining all information needed prior to the visit.

 

  • Obtain prior authorization for medications and follow-up to ensure medications are processed in a timely manner.

 

  • Appropriately document all nursing interventions in the electronic medical record.  Review chart for completeness, billing and test results.

 

  • Respond to questions from patients, family members, physicians, and other health care providers in a timely and professional manner.  All patient conversations must be documented in the chart, as well as, attempts to reach the patient.  This is done via telephone or by FollowMyHealth patient portal.

 

  • Administer injections of medications in accordance with approved nursing protocol or standing orders and document appropriately in the patients’ electronic medical record. 

 

  • Check voicemail and schedule appointments when needed

 

  • Assist with Dexa Scans, if needed

 

  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions and educational meetings.

 

  • Provide backup, support and resources to the clinical staff (MA’s) when needed.

 

  • Performs other duties as required to effectively meet the needs of the practice.

                                                                 

Qualifications

Completion of a program of instruction for licensure as a Practical Nurse required. Completion of BLS Class and re-certify every 2 years. Previous clinical experience preferred. Must be a licensed LPN in Virginia
