Overview

The Family Engagement Assistant will coordinate the creation and management of a regional family council for early childhood care and education (ECCE) as part of Ready Region Southeastern.  Ready Regions is a regional network that brings public and private partners together to ensure Virginia’s early childhood system prepares children for success.  Ready Region Southeastern is dedicated to strengthening Southeastern Virginia by fostering equity and opportunity for young children, their families, and all who are dedicated to helping them thrive. This position will work with member agencies- Minus 9 to 5, Smart Beginnings Western Tidewater, and Smart Beginnings Eastern Shore- to develop relationships with parents, community organizations especially public and private childcare, Head Start, and public schools, to support authentic family engagement. Must be willing to travel regionally

Responsibilities

  • Organize work assignments and priorities with minimal supervision or directions.
  • Provides family engagement expertise to Ready Region Southeastern team:
  • Ensure regional community partners prioritize equity-centered family engagement with a focus on underserved, historically marginalized families
  • Directly seeks knowledge from regional families to understand strengths and community needs that have not been met and/or addressed
  • Use publicly available data and other sources to identify populations for inclusion
  • Create and maintain an active regional family council that functions as a touchstone for regional early childhood care and education issues
  • Serve as critical liaison between the regional family council and Ready Region Southeastern member agencies
  • Collect and perform basic analysis on regional data on family engagement, needs, concerns
  • Develops innovative methods to engage families using multiple modalities
  • Participate in Ready Region activities and trainings at both state and regional levels
  • Engages as a vital team member.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Associate degree. One (1) year of experience in coalition building, community engagement.  Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Proven relationship building skills with exceptional ability to collaborate. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects concurrently. Familiarity with Virginia’s early childhood care systems. High capacity for using new technology and training others to use. Cultural sensitivity and understanding.

 

Valid Driver’s license, provide a recent DMV report and have use of a vehicle in good working order with proof of insurance with a minimum limit of liability of $100,000 per accident as use of a personal vehicle will be required as part of this position.   Copies of all documents must be provided to Human Resources, prior to any use of a personal vehicle for this position.
