Overview

Under the direction of the Senior Associate Vice President and Dean, School of Health Professions, the Associate Dean serves as a senior administrative leader, providing oversight, strategic direction, and management in the day-to-day operations of the School of Health Professions.  The position plays a key role in supporting the School’s academic, financial and strategic objectives.  The Associate Dean will work closely with Old Dominion Graduate School and Virginia Health Sciences Deans, faculty and administrators to ensure the School’s programs are aligned with institutional goals, policies, accreditation requirements and academic industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative leadership and direction in the planning, organization and evaluation of the School’s administrative functions.
  • Works with Dean and Program Directors on faculty and staff recruitment, appointment, evaluation, promotion and retention.
  • Serves on the School’s Appointment and Promotion Committee
  • Develops business plans for establishing new educational programs or expanding existing programs.
  • Reviews contracts, affiliation agreements, and related documents and facilitates arrangements involving School’s faulty engaged in patient care.
  • Oversite of School’s collaboration with ODU Global
  • Serves as liaison to other departments to ensure effective policies, procedures, communication and operations (e.g., Student affairs, Alumni Affairs, Financial Services, Business Management)
  • Represent the Dean and the School in meetings with institutional leadership and external stakeholders including professional associations and community partners.
  • Collaborate with program directors to achieve operational and enrollment goals
  • Serve on institutional committees as directed by the Dean
  • Collaborate with institutional SACSCOC, SCHEV and programmatic accreditor liaisons and program directors to ensure programs are in compliance with the accreditation standards.
  • Assist the Dean in the management of the budget for the School, including resource allocation, tracking expenditures and ensuring fiscal responsibility.
  • Partner with program directors and Virginia Health Sciences Student Affairs in resolving student concerns and complaints.
  • Utilize data and analytics to assess the effectiveness of recruitment, enrollment, administrative processes and program outcomes.
  • Provide regular reports to the Dean on the performance of the School’s programs, financial health and operational activities.

 

MANAGEMENT AND SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the recruitment, hiring and professional development of non faculty staff within the Dean’s office.
  • Provide guidance and support for program directors in addressing performance, operational and organizational changes.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that supports academic excellence and staff development.

Qualifications

College degree required

Leadership experience preferably in an education and/or healthcare setting.
