Overview

Function as an independent nurse clinician in coordinating both obstetrical and gynecological patient care, to include the performance, interpretation, and reporting of test results, assessment of patient status, educational needs, and follow up care. 

Responsibilities

  • Triage patients to ensure that the patients who are most in need of care receive it first and that other members of the care team are ready to begin treatments as quickly as possible.
  • Central point of contact for all phone triage needs for the Generalist division.
  • Answer inbound patient, family, and facility calls concerning topics pertaining to the Obstetrics and Gynecology service line.
  • Interview patients to gather information about their medical history and current symptoms to make an accurate assessment.
  • Initiate diagnostic and therapeutic measures as indicated by standing protocols or orders.
  • Communicate information to physicians, nurses and other members of the care team about patient statues.
  • Return patient and physician phone calls in a timely manner.
  • Reviews patient records to provide appropriate assessment.
  • Obtain outside records from referring provider and/or specialists when appropriate.
  • Document pertinent information in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of clinical calls.
  • Receive and communicate verbal/written physician orders to appropriate parties.
  • Facilitate prescription refills according to refill protocol, utilizing electronic prescriptions.
  • Coordinate referrals to external providers for diagnostic testing and continued care.
  • Schedule appointments as needed.
  • Assist in rooming patients upon arrival to clinic and reporting pertinent information to the provider as needed.
  • Recognize normal versus abnormal results; provides an accurate, readable report of the test; contact physician when necessary.
  • Act as a liaison between patients, the outpatient clinical teams and the inpatient clinical teams.
  • Maintain clinical competency in areas of responsibility to ensure quality patient care which includes validation of skill level by passing both verbal and written tests administered by Nursing Supervisor.
  • Promote the philosophy, goals and objectives of the School and the Department by becoming familiar with and complying with policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the well-being of patients by serving as a positive role model and demonstrating a professional, caring attitude, and behavior towards co-workers, patients, and guests.
  • Attendance, as assigned, is essential to meeting required performance duties.
  • Complete other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Graduation from NLN Accredited School of Nursing with RN required, BSN preferred. 

 

Minimum one year experience with high risk obstetric patients and minimum one year experience in fetal monitoring is preferred. Must have a valid Virginia license as a Professional Registered Nurse.
