For a professional Registered Nurse to provide outpatient nursing care and assistance to our providers in the Endocrine Clinic and the Strelitz Diabetes Center. The patient population include diabetes and its comorbidities (hypertension, dyslipidemia, obesity etc) as well as thyroid, osteoporosis, pituitary, adrenal, and other hormonal disorders. Must be able to independently perform clinical and administrative duties. Coordinate patient care by; reporting test results, assessment of patient status, educational needs, patient education and follow-up care.

Review, work, and complete tasks assigned to you and other team tasks. This will include responding to patient messages, prescription refills, lab results, referrals, home health agencies, medication prior authorizations, patient forms and follow up from physicians in a professional and timely manner
Notify patient of test/lab results and answer any questions regarding those results and any physician orders. Assist patients with medication questions and clarification dosing.
Appropriately and timely document all nursing intervention, including phone conversations into the patient’s electronic health record.
Provide back -up to the providers in the clinic as necessary, triaging patients by obtaining vital signs, reconciling medication and allergy list, determining chief complaint and downloading pumps and continuous glucose sensors as needed.
Patient education, discharge medication reconciliation, drug assistance programs, nutrition and barriers to care
Obtain lab/CT/MRI/Biopsy results from outside sources and scan into the patient’s electronic medical record. This includes reviewing upcoming appointments and obtaining prior to the visit.
Obtain prior authorization for medications, censors and pump supplies and coordinate care with DME companies
Participate in staff meetings and educational lectures/sessions. Lead some clinical educational luncheons for staff.
Schedule outpatient procedures and tests, including Infusions.
Specific to Endocrinology:
Recognize and assess health education needs of patients. Provide ongoing Diabetic Education and Teaching, Insulin Pump and Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) training, and home monitoring and assistance with patient assistance programs.
Administer injections of and schedule follow-up or schedule outpatient infusions for Prolia, Reclast, and ACTH, in accordance with approved nursing protocol and standing orders and document appropriately in the patient’s electronic health record. Observe patient for any adverse reactions.
Assist provide with Ultrasound Thyroid biopsies and Fine Needle Aspirations. Mailing off and tracking results.
Completes other duties as assigned
Graduation from NLN Accredited School of Nursing with RN required, BSN preferred. Must have a valid Virginia license as a Professional Registered Nurse.
Prior clinical experience is preferred.
