Overview

The main objective of this position is to efficiently manage and support institutional REDCap and CAISIS database systems, ensuring their operational integrity through regular monitoring, maintenance, and updates. This role aims to enhance research project development and execution by providing expert guidance and technical support to faculty, students, and staff. Additionally, the position is dedicated to developing institutional support projects – including Research Day – coordinating data requests and negotiating agreements in compliance with legal and institutional standards, while facilitating effective data utilization and resource optimization within the organization. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage REDCap database systems including daily monitoring, maintenance and upgrades as required
  • Assist faculty, students, and staff with REDCap project development and submission to IRB
  • Develop and maintain institutional REDCap operational support projects (faculty evals, blood borne pathogen reporting, TB reporting, Covid reporting)
  • Manage CAISIS database systems
  • Provides direction to coworkers and faculty regarding utilization of available data and computational resources 
  • Analyze processes to assess user needs and requests and provides technical expertise in development and implementation of various application systems and processes 
  • Provide second-level help desk support to research and resolve database and software-related problems 
  • Develops applications or processes, which may interface with other systems. Specifies the user interface, supports the actual development and manages the integration of solutions in target environments as scoped in the projects 
  • Administer clinical conductor clinical trials application
  • Process and route data transfer agreements, data use agreement amendments, material transfer agreements, and non-disclosure agreements to the appropriate organizations. Collaborate with OGC to ensure legal obligations are met
  • Data custodian/honest broker for externally sourced datasets containing PHI or other sensitive data 
  • Manages research day abstract submissions REDcap project
  • Receive and route data requests from students and researchers 
  • Coordinates Research Day abstract publication to the web and poster printing 
  • Queries databases and produce reports for faculty, staff and collaborators 
  • Identify populations, extract and report clinical and specimen data for studies from REDCap and CAISIS
  • Maintain on premises application servers within the Canoles Cancer Center (Mascot & JARVIS)
  • Train groups and individuals in data collection and REDCap use
  • Work with vendors to modify software as necessary to meet college requirements. Serve as liaison between the vendor and the affected staff 
  • Negotiate and manage licensing for research-oriented software applications 
  • Co-ordinate on campus demonstrations and training events for research-oriented software 

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Minimum of Associate’s degree in an applied focus area such as database management, computer science, etc. is required. Bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:

2 years of database management experience is required. Application implementation or post-production support experience required. Basic troubleshooting experience is required. Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and working in a team environment.

Preferred experience includes: 5 years relevant experience querying datasets and standardizing data, cleaning data, and identifying missing data. Some functional or technical training in function specific databases application preferred. Experience with database design and programming languages. Experience with performance tuning, web design, software installation and configuration, and technical writing.

Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to expresses ideas effectively. Demonstrates sound judgment with regard to decision-making. Understanding of basic database and data management practices as well as data security principles and HIPAA regulations. Functional use of SQL, HTML, and PHP. Ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously which requires the ability to manage time and resources to ensure assignments are completed accurately and deadlines are met. Meets attendance/punctuality requirements. Ability to adapt to changing work environments, work priorities, and organizational needs. Takes independent action to address and resolve problems

 

PREFERRED TECHNICAL SKILLS:

Microsoft Certified Professional certification. Experience using and administering REDCap. Mastery of SQL, advanced abilities with HTML, advanced abilities with PHP, familiarity with Apache. Expert user of MS Office suite. Experience with SSMS and ODBC database access. Advanced troubleshooting experience. Experience working with EMR data.
