Function as an independent nurse clinician in coordinating patients to include the performance, interpretation, and reporting of test results, assessment of patient status, educational needs, and follow up care. Provides education for staff and community and assists with research programs.
Recognize normal versus abnormal results; prepares accurate, readable report of the test; contact physician when necessary.
Assess health education needs of patient to provide ongoing evaluation of necessary instructions.
Provide a holistic approach in the care of all patients.
Triage incoming patients by obtaining vital signs, reconcile current medication list, reconcile allergies and determine chief complaint.
Administer injections of medications or immunizations in accordance with approved nursing protocol or standing orders and document appropriately in the patients’ electronic medical record. Observe patient for any adverse reactions.
Assist with and maintain ongoing knowledge of billing and insurance protocols. Assist physicians with examinations, minor surgeries, diagnostic procedures and treatments. Implement standing orders when applicable. Provide basic care as ordered.
Maintain clinical competency in areas of responsibility to ensure quality patient care which includes validation of skill level by passing both verbal and written tests administered by Supervisor.
Promote the philosophy, goals and objectives of the School and the Department by becoming familiar with and complying with policies and procedures.
Contribute to the well-being of patients by serving as a positive role model and demonstrating a professional, caring attitude, and behavior towards co-workers, patients, and guests.
Collects samples, such as urine, blood and sputum, from patients for testing and perform routine laboratory test on samples. Must be able to log in collection sample and follow-up on results.
Appropriately document all nursing interventions in the electronic medical record. Review chart for completeness, test results and billing
Maintain knowledge of all office procedures: ECG, “in-house” labs, spirometry, administration of nebulizer treatments, insertion and monitoring of IVs, assistant with minor surgical procedures and GYN procedures.
Call test/lab results to patients and answer questions regarding those results and physician instructions.
Respond to questions from patients, family members, faculty/residents, other health care providers in a timely and professional manner. Patient phone calls should be answered or documented the same day they are received. All patient conversation must be documented in the chart, as well as, attempts to reach patient.
Review and work/complete all “tasks” assigned to you and your individual team (as well as covering for other nurses who may be absent. This will include responding to patient messages, prescription refills, lab results, referrals, home health agencies, medication prior authorizations, patient forms and follow up from physicians.
Patient education; diabetic teaching of home monitoring, coagulation therapy, discharge medication reconciliation, drug assistance programs nutrition and barriers to care.
Participate in staff meeting, education lectures, and PCMH/QI improvement activities.
Sustain the quality assurance of patient charts.
Monitors clinical supply levels and inventory for the entire facility and place orders as needed.
Performs venipuncture as needed.
Completes patient’s FMLA and disability forms.
Complete other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Must have a valid Virginia license as a Professional Registered Nurse.
Graduation from NLN Accredited School of Nursing with RN required, BSN preferred.
Prior clinical experience is preferred.
