Overview

The Department of Biomedical & Translational Sciences at Brock VHS Eastern Virginia Medical School at Old Dominion University seeks qualified applicants for a part time faculty position at the ASSISTANT PROFESSOR level. The ODU community provides ample opportunities for growth for a professional interested in developing their career as a health professions educator. The successful candidate will join a collegial department that teaches medical and graduate students.  

 

Candidates should have an MS-PA or equivalent terminal degree and experience teaching graduate level sciences classes. The successful candidate will be a motivated enthusiastic educator with a desire to work remotely to serve a dynamic academic environment. Duties will include teaching online graduate level courses as well as various administrative duties for the Pathologists’ Assistant Program. Candidates must have and maintain active ASCP certification.

Responsibilities

  • Teach in and serve as course director (co-director, assistant course director, and administrative co-director) of online graduate level Path A courses
  • Serve on the Admission Review Committee, Program Semi-Annual Review Committee, Student Progress Committee and as an Advisory Board member
  • Maintain alumni relations, surveys and newsletter; conduct various surveys for the program (i.e. employer and preceptor surveys, clinical site surveys, student exit surveys); and manage social media for the program
  • Act as a liaison between the Pathologists’ Assistant program and the following: the AAPA (including coordination of student poster presentations at professional conferences), AAPA student delegates, ODU MLS program (to recruit students), clinical site affiliates (current and prospective), and ELO to resolve lodging conflicts
  • Assisting with student focused administration for the Pathologists’ Assistant program including scheduling clinical clerkships, reviewing student capstone projects, writing recommendation letters for student employment, conducting student preliminary and final summative clinical assessments, and monitoring clinical clerkship performance and progress and handling disputes
  • Generate and maintain documentation for the Pathologists’ Assistant program including clinical site fact sheets, clinical course syllabi and canvas shell, clinical and preceptor handbooks, and support documents for NAACLS annual report and self-study report

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

  • MS-PA (ASCP) or equivalent terminal degree

  • Maintain active ASCP certification including CME

  • Expertise in pathology/pathophysiology

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Development of medical and graduate curricula.

  • Facilitation of small group and case base learning activities.

  • Supervision and facilitation of simulated medical cases.
