As a key clinical staff member within the Division of Laryngology, this position will act as the direct liaison between the Divisions patients and faculty members, as well as the other departmental staff. The role will be instrumental in guiding patients through the care plan outlined by the Division faculty members. These care plans often involve surgical interventions and require guiding the patient through the experience from beginning to end. This position will play a key role in ensuring overall patient satisfaction and will be uniquely positioned to support faculty goals of maximizing clinical time and effort as well as the overall patient experience including supporting transitions of care between inpatient and outpatient services.   The anticipated time and effort for the position will largely be at offices located at Norfolk General Hospital. On occasion though the role will also spend time at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital as well as the Brock Cancer Center located near the Sentara Leigh Hospital.   The position will report directly to the Department Administrator and work collaboratively with all Division faculty members.

General Obstetrics & Gynecology nurse practitioners’ function in an expanded nursing role and perform selected tasks and services previously within the province of medicine as well as tasks that fall within the province of nursing.  Nursing and medicine must maintain ongoing collaboration in education and practice so that the nurse practitioner is maximally effective in meeting the primary health-care needs of women.  When performing nursing aspects of this role, the practitioner must have the opportunity to engage in independent as well as co-operative decision making.  When performing expanded aspects of the role that overlap with medicine, the practitioner must function in collaboration with qualified physicians within the framework of jointly approved guidelines.  Nurse practitioners not only must be prepared and competent to apply additional knowledge and skills, but also must be ready and willing to accept responsibility and accountability for their practice. Primary care is provided at all levels of the health-care system, but predominately in an ambulatory setting.  The obstetric-gynecologic/women’s health nurse practitioner provides such care in collaboration with physicians, as well as with other members of the health-care team.  Position supports all office locations. Practitioner will be required to travel between all office locations.

The Medical Officer/Lead Clinical R&D Scientist will be responsible for developing and elaborating new concepts, designing clinical research protocols, leading clinical research team meetings, analyzing data, preparing clinical study reports and manuscripts, co-authoring grant proposals, writing/reviewing clinical portions of regulatory documents (e.g. IND, IRB, IB), and attending and participating in scientific conferences and meetings on behalf of CONRAD and study teams. S/He will contribute to monitoring overall study integrity and the review, interpretation and communication of accumulating data pertaining to safety and efficacy. S/He will also oversee extramural clinical subprojects (collaborations) and liaise with public and private sector organizations interested in CONRAD’s women’s health portfolio. The Medical Officer/Lead Clinical R&D Scientist is expected to assist with or lead the writing and submission of new clinical research funding applications. S/He will stay current and maintain knowledge/excellence on the state of the art in women’s and global health clinical R&D in areas of priority to CONRAD’s mission and goals.
